The G-102 is mounted on a German Equatorial mount. The mount features solid metal construction‚ setting circles and locking knobs in Declination and Right Ascension‚ counter balance shaft and weight‚ deluxe latitude adjuster‚ and slow motion controls with detachable flex cables in both axis. A motor drive can also be attached for added tracking capability (motor drive sold seperately). The Mount is attached to a very sturdy metal tripod. The telescope attaches to the EQ mount via dove tail mounting system. The telescopes optical tube assembly is finished out with a large 1¼″ format focus tube with micro adjusting focuser. Terrestrial viewing is also a snap due to the included 1¼″ diagonal prism.
The Galileo G-102 optical tube assembly features a 1400mm focal length provided by the Maksutov Cassegrain design. The Correcting Meniscus lens is fully multi-coated. The Primary mirror is a 102mm in diameter and features a heavy duty mirror cell and is fully baffled. The primary mirror is aluminized with Silicon Monoxide Quartz overcoat providing 92% reflectivity and a resolving power of 1.14 arc seconds. The secondary mirror has an obstruction of approximately 25% linear (approximately 6% of the total area). The optical tube assembly is diffraction limited at λ4 (1/4 wave in Sodium light). The diagonal consists of a 90° prism that is fully coated in Magnesium Fluoride (refractive index: n = 1.38). The finderscope is an 8 x 21mm cross hair finderscope. Included with the Galileo G-102 are two 1¼″ fully coated Plössl eyepieces: 6.5mm eyepiece (52° apparent field of view), and 1¼″ 20mm eyepiece (52° apparent field of view).
